π SEIU 503 βΒ Your Union, Your VoiceΒ
Homecare providers are stronger when we stand together.Β
Welcome to the brand new My Homecare Companion! β’ Β‘Bienvenido al nuevo My Homecare Companion!
Homecare providers are stronger when we stand together.Β
π€ You Are Part of Something Bigger
Every day, homecare providers help Oregonians live with dignity, independence, and choice.
But the people providing that care need a voice, too.
SEIU Local 503 brings homecare workers together so providers have a collective voice in the decisions that affect our work, our wages, our benefits, and the people we care for.
You don't have to know anything about unions to get involved. You don't have to start by attending every meeting or knowing every issue. You can start simply by learning what your union does and discovering how your voice can make a difference.
π When providers participate, our collective voice becomes stronger.
π Your Voice Helps Shape What We Bargain ForΒ
Before bargaining begins, SEIU 503 asks members what matters most to them through a bargaining survey.
The bargaining survey is one of the most important ways members can tell the bargaining team which issues and improvements they want prioritized at the bargaining table.
Wages, benefits, training, working conditions, protections, and other priorities all begin with hearing from the people doing the work.
π The more members who participate, the clearer and stronger our collective voice is at the bargaining table.
Important: Bargaining surveys are sent to SEIU 503 members. If you are represented by SEIU 503 but are not currently a member, you must become a member to receive and participate in the bargaining survey.
β What Have Homecare Providers Won Together?Β
When homecare providers come together, we can change what our work looks like.
Through collective bargaining and provider involvement, SEIU 503-represented homecare workers have negotiated wages, benefits, protections, and improvements to our working conditions.
Some of what providers have won together includes:
π΅ Better Wages & Pay Protections
Negotiated wage rates and pay-scale provisions, along with protections for payroll timelines and correcting payment errors.
ποΈ Paid Time Off & Benefits
Negotiated funding helps provide benefits such as paid time off and health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible providers.
π Training & Professional Development
Training and continuing-education opportunities, along with negotiated recognition and compensation for professional development.
β±οΈ Compensation for Administrative Time
Providers receive compensation for 15 minutes of administrative time each pay period for work associated with required administrative responsibilities.
π‘οΈ A Voice in Changes That Affect Our Work
Providers have a collective voice when systems, policies, technology, and working conditions changeβincluding negotiated protections involving electronic visit verification (EVV).
βοΈ Rights & a Process When Problems Happen
Our contract establishes rights and formal processes for addressing workplace and contract disputes instead of leaving individual providers to navigate everything alone.
None of these things happen simply because someone decides providers deserve them.
Providers organize. Providers speak up. Providers bargain. And providers continue working to make homecare better.
π Every provider who gets involved makes that collective voice stronger.
π I'm a Member β How Can I Get Involved?Β
There isn't just one way to be involved in your union.
Some members have a few minutes. Others have a few hours. Some want to lead, while others simply want to stay informed and show up when something matters.
Every level of participation matters.
π¬ Stay Informed
Read union emails, follow updates, and learn about issues affecting homecare providers.
π€ Come to a Meeting
Attend a county, regional, or Homecare Sublocal 99 meeting. You can come just to listen. You don't have to know anyone or know how everything works.
π£ Take Action When You Can
Sign a petition, contact a legislator, attend a rally, share your story, or participate in another union action.
π¬ Connect With Other Providers
Sometimes involvement starts with one conversation. Share information, listen to another provider's experience, and help someone discover the resources available to them.
π‘οΈ Become a Steward
Stewards help fellow providers understand their rights, navigate workplace issues, and have a stronger voice. Training and support are availableβyou don't have to know everything before you begin.
π³οΈ Serve in Union Leadership
Members can run for elected positions and help represent providers locally and statewide.
β Get Involved in Bargaining
Providers help determine bargaining priorities, participate in actions supporting negotiations, and can pursue opportunities to serve on the bargaining team.
You don't have to do everything. Just find the place that feels right for you.
π Your experience matters. Your ideas matter. Your voice matters.

π Find Community β SEIU 503 CaucusesΒ
Our union is stronger when members can bring their whole selves to it.
SEIU 503 caucuses create spaces for members to connect around shared identities, experiences, and communities. Caucuses give members opportunities to build relationships, develop leadership, raise issues that matter to their communities, and help shape our union.
You don't have to choose between being a homecare provider and the other parts of who you are. There is room for all of you in your union. π
ποΈ CAPE β Giving Homecare Providers a Political VoiceΒ
What happens at the Capitol affects what happens in homecare.
Decisions made by elected leaders can affect funding for homecare services, provider wages and benefits, consumer access to care, and the future of our workforce.
CAPE β Citizen Action for Political Education β is SEIU 503's member-funded political action program.
CAPE gives members another way to join together and have a voice in the political decisions that affect workers, our families, our consumers, and our communities.
π Values Matter More Than Party LabelsΒ
CAPE works to support candidates who understand and stand up for working people and for the seniors, people with disabilities, and others who rely on the care we provide.
Our focus isn't simply red or blue β we're purple. What matters most is whether candidates share the values and priorities that affect homecare providers, our consumers, our families, and our communities.
By working together around the issues that matter to us, we can help achieve better outcomes for the people who provide care and the people who depend on it.
π CAPE contributions are voluntary and separate from regular union dues.
You don't have to be a political expert to participate. CAPE is one way members can help make sure working people have a voice when important decisions are being made.
π³οΈ Voting & Civic Participation
Decisions made by elected leaders can affect homecare services, provider wages and benefits, access to care, and our communities. Registering to vote and keeping your registration current are nonpartisan ways to help ensure your voice can be heard.
Use the official Oregon Secretary of State website to register to vote or update your voter registration.
