Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing education helps Oregon homecare providers stay current with best practices and maintain their provider enrollment.

As of March 31, 2026, HCWs, PSWs, and PCAs are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education every two years through Carewell SEIU 503 Training. The requirement applies even if you work for a family member. If you work under more than one provider type, you only need to complete one total requirement every two years—not one for each provider type.

Continuing Education vs. Other OHCC Training

Continuing Education (CE) is the specific 12-hour training requirement connected to renewing your provider number. It includes 4 hours of required training and 8 hours of approved elective courses.

OHCC also offers many other classes through PACE. These may support professional development, certifications, specialized skills, or general learning, but an OHCC class does not automatically count toward your Continuing Education requirement.

Before taking a class for CE credit:

• Review the course description to confirm that it is an approved CE course.

• Complete CE through the Carewell Learning Portal unless official instructions direct you elsewhere.

• Check your Carewell training record to make sure the completed course and credits appear correctly.

Until further official guidance is issued, MHC will continue to describe the Continuing Education requirement as 12 hours every two years.

How Do I Know Whether My CE Is Complete?

Review your training record after completing your courses. Confirm that all required training and elective credits have been recorded and that your total shows at least 12 hours of approved Continuing Education.
